.The words "Detroit Rock" generally bring to mind certain sounds - the over - the - top sonic irreverence of punk progenitors the Stooges or the MC5, the high - powered blue - eyed R&B of Mitch Ryder, the working class barroom rock of Bob Seger, the testosterone - drenched, provocative (and at times downright silly) gonzo antics of Ted Nugent.

The Waxwings hail from the Motor City, but don't fit comfortably into any of these categories, preferring instead to take the influence of bands like the Zombies, Big Star and the Byrds as the jumping off point for their own brand of melodic pop/ rock. The Waxwings released their debut album, "Low To The Ground," on Bobsled Records in 2000.
