The question kept coming up: "Have you seen Billy
Midnight yet?" It only took one listen to understand
why. Billy Midnight mines a rich field of harmony-drenched Americana,
with some inspired guitar from group leader Billy
Shaddox. The trio' s music is a mix of country laments, folk,
pop and rock ' n' roll attitude. From the crying-in-your-beer ballad
"Thera-Flu" to the almost funky guitar workout "Sasquatch,"
this is engaging, fun music. On stage, the group' s intensity and
single-minded direction is involving, particularly on such up-tempo
songs as "Lonely Tail." But the band' s underlying sense
of humor shines through. Ultimately, it' s a party and we' re all
invited.
