Last year Craig Kilborn broke
with tradition and invited the first unsigned band to play on his
Late Late Show. That band was Convoy,
five broke musicians from San Diego. After hearing a copy of their
self-produced, recorded and released debut, "Pineapple
Recording Sessions," Kilborn hailed the band as "the
hottest thing to come out of San Diego since
Blink-182." Sure, it was showbiz hyperbole, but Convoy
has that affect on a lot of people.
The Short Story
Two songwriters and a svelte rock band hole up in the desert hill
town of Jamul for two years. With primitive living conditions and
a couple of dogs, the band redefines the art of harmonies in rock
music. They return to their hometown with a lo-fi masterpiece. The
album wins the major Southern Californian music magazine award (SLAMM)
for best rock album of 2000. Press raves from indie music magazines
and newspapers across the country from Sacramento to Philadelphia
(Rolling Stone, Alive and Kicking, Union
Tribume, etc.). They sell out the CD many times over and
they sell out West Coast rock clubs.
Hybrid Recordings swoops 'em up.
