Saxophone wizard Skerik
may reside in the city of Seattle but he doesn't seem to be spending
much time there lately. Several high profile collaborations have kept
Skerik at the top of his game... and away from home. Skerik
was recently seen as a member of Les Claypool's
Frog Brigade on the SnoCore Icicle
Tour with Galactic. Skerik
is also an ongoing member of the bands Garage
a Trois (w/ Stanton Moore & Charlie Hunter), Ponga
(w/ Wayne Horvitz, Bobby Previte & Dave Palmer), Mike
Clark's Prescription Renewal (w/ original Headhunters drummer
Mike Clark, Charlie Hunter, Robert Walter & DJ Logic), and has
played previously in the bands SadHappy
and Tuatara.
One of Skerik's most interesting
and unusual projects, Critters Buggin,
is about to embark on a west coast bombardment going all the way from
Vancouver to San Diego, and just about everywhere in between. Critters
Buggin are an eclectic/improvisational/experimental/tribal/electronic/theatrical/funk
machine. The band consists of Skerik
on saxophone, keyboards, and random gadgets, Brad
Houser on bass, Matt Chamberlain
on drums, (both formerly of the New Bohemians) and Mike
Dillon on percussion. Critters Buggin are the complete sensory
experience, packed not only with amazing improvisational instrumentation
but also with visual and theatrical stimulation by way of their traveling
light show and cast of freak actors and special guests.
The band formed in 1993 and released their first record Guest
the following year on their friend Stone
Gossard's (Pearl Jam guitarist)
Loosegroove label. The live album Host
appeared three years later, followed by 1998's Bumpa. Critters
Buggin's newest album Amoeba
continued the group's distinctive jazz-funk-dub direction. These guys
are the complete experience. If they're coming to your town... GO
SEE THEM!
