The Rooftop Vigil

Maldroid was a band born in reverse.  Tired of the junk videos (rarely) played on MTV, lead singer Ryan Divine took to making his own.  The videos and songs caught on, and before they had even played a live show, the dapper dressed Maldroid appeared on Good Morning America to accept their YouTube/Cingular Underground "Best Video" award.  In true reversal style, Maldroid then set out on making live shows as entertaining as the videos they created.  A solid year of touring and playing brought them to where they are now:  a complete package.  An unendingly entertaining Kinks-inspired live set compliments the stunning Gondry-inspired videos which compliment the sonically amazing records that can be summed up in one word:  "AC/DEvo."  The best part?  It's all DIY - the recording, the videos, even the bands management all stay far away from the crashing-and-burning music industry.  Charting a new DIY path never sounded, or looked, so good.

"The Ian Fays are among the most promising groups in the local (San Francisco) indie pop-rock community." The Bay Bridged May 29th 2007 Episode 66
"32 minutes of lo-fi whispers and dreaming that speaks of small disappointments, loves and drinks."
MTV Italy, review of "The Damon Lessons"

"[The Rooftop Vigil...showcased not only a collection of skilled musicians and cohesive instrumentation, but music that was provoking and intelligent with lyrics to match. Like a mix of Arcade Fire and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, [The Roofotp Vigil's] melody is carefree to the ears but emotionally charged. However, the true foundation of their flawless sound is in the beautiful vocals of Deni and Johansing. Each show real, raw talent on their own, but their harmonizing together took it to another level that was utterly beautiful. The band's set left many audience members gaping and whispering in awe at points and the large pile of free demo CDs on the merchandise table were gone by the time the third song was cued." -Review by Nicole Sheikh, PERFORMERmag.com
