"If life is a cabaret, Pink Martini is the band in the existential orchestra pit." - CMJ

Pink Martini
blends influences from classical chamber music to Cuban, from French music halls to foreign films, resulting in a dynamic frenzy of percussion, brass, strings and lyrics that span the continents. Pink Martini's debut CD, Sympathique, was released independently on their own label, Heinz Records, in the Pacific Northwest in November of 1997 and nationwide in April of 1998.

Comprised of 10 musicians, the Portland, Oregon-based Pink Martini was a fortuitous accident, thrown together as the opener for the 3-gal, 3-guitar ensemble The Del Rubio Triplets in the Fall of 1994. Since then, the band has performed in France, in Los Angeles with soul legend Al Green at theWilliam Morris Agency 's Centennial Anniversary, with the Oregon Symphony and opened for Squirrel Nut Zippers and Eartha Kitt, among others. Pink Martini's live performances have included special guest vocal appearances by Kim Coles, Queen Latifah and Gus Van Sant. Pink Martini members sat in on "Twist and Shout" with Elton John and Ringo Starr at the AmFAR Cinema Against Aids Fundraiser at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.

Pink Martini is also notorious for its parties including the Wild Kingdom Rhumba, Let's Get Lost, Havana 3am and the Blue Blue Danube Waltz, an annual formal waltz featuring a 25-piece symphony orchestra performing Strauss and Vienesse waltzes.

Pink Martini represents what is refreshing and new in pop music, respecting the traditions of classical, jazz and Latin, and inspiring a new amalgamation that is hypnotic, cinematic and above all else -- beautiful.
