"Jazz used to be popular music," states Sex
Mob figurehead and slide truumpet genious Steven
Bernstein. "people would go to clubs, listen to the
music, go home and get laid. Simple as that. We're bringing that
spirit back.
Armed with three chords and the truth, Sex
Mob has been on a mission since its birth in 1995 when the
Knitting Factory asked Bernstein to curate a house band that fabled
the Tap Bar. The word of mouth started spreading to all five boroughs
and soon the Mob was named "Best New York City Band" by
both Time Out New York and CitySearch.com.
The New York Times was
quick to claim that Sex Mob is
"exactly what jazz needs today- indie cred." And the Village
Voice summed up their thoughts in a two word headline:
"MOB RULES."
