Originally formed as an acoustic duo Strange
Folk in 1991, Strangefolk
(now one word) added bass and drums within a year and took to playing
the bars in and around the vibrant musical community of Burlington,
Vermont. Strangefolk has since built a national grass-roots
following based on the strength of two studio CD releases (Lore
and Weightless in Water) as well
as a rigorous touring schedule, playing roughly 200 gigs a year. Today
Strangefolk headlines festivals, clubs and theaters nationwide, and
touts a mailing list of over 20,000. Their latest release,
A Great Long While (produced by Nile Rodgers) showcases the
bands depth, variety and continued growth as songwriters and
musicians.
At the heart of Strangefolks songwriting is a seamless blend
of narrative lyrical content and inventive melody. In fact, the bands
name refers to the layering of unusual guitar sounds, time sequences
and melodies over a singer-songwriter styled lyrical foundation. Rock,
folk, blues and bluegrass influences converge to create an instantly
recognizable sound which keeps Strangefolks listeners moving
from start to finish. When punctuated with Strangefolks trademark
three-part harmonies and soaring lead guitar, the bands unique
songwriting ability develops a natural avenue for the band to extend
themselves in a live setting. The result is one of the more gratifying
live music experiences around. |
